Could be a damaged hard drive or memory. Try using another computer with a CD burner to make a a memtest86 boot CD (http://www.memtest86.com/download.html). Boot from that and test the memory. If there are no errors, go to the website for your hard drive manufacture and download any diagnostic tools they provide. These will check your hard drive for problems. Finally, boot from a DOS floppy and use fdisk to completely wipe the drive. Don't bother making a new partition, just delete everything that is already on the drive. Then boot from the Win98 CD and try installing again.

Also, check the IDE drive cables. Sometimes a bad connection in the ribbon cables connecting the hard drives can cause problems similar to what you describe.

Thameem,

If you want to cut that 30 minutes to about
3-4 minutes, check these links out:

It sounds like you have a bad hard drive. Back up whatever data you can, then throw out the hard drive and buy a new one.
