I restored a previous registry. Now when system boots it can't find a file for a anti-virus monitor file. I had previosly -uninstalled this software and need to get rid of this file-C:\progra\inocu~1\vetmon9x.vxd I cannot find this file to delete it. Its either in the registry or system.ini files PLEASE HELP!!

Search for it in your registry and remove all lines refering to it.
Then check system.ini and win.ini and do the same.

look in your system.ini

vxd files tend to be in there, look for that file and put a

;

before the entire string of line, incase you want to go back to it.

; , disables the line

for example
say you see this.

programs = c:\windows\dd\ed.exe

to disable it type

;programs = c:\windows\dd\ed.exe

Yes, scanreg /restore puts back your registry together with system.ini & win.ini which were current "at that time".

I appreciate that you probably 'had' to use restore but this is why I would always try scanreg /fix first because this keeps everything the same....I also realise that you probably did this too!

Click start--run--type regedit and click ok. Doubleclick on each of these:

hkey_local_machine\system\current control set\services\vxd

After doubleclicking the VXD key you should see a vetmon9x key listed underneath. Delete the vetmon9x key then close regedit.
