Hi Guy’s.
Can anyone recommend a program that can tell exactly what changes have been made in the register when a program has been installed.
I installed a program called Golden Dragon, and removed it after a couple of days. I tried to install it again about a month later, and was told I had used my 15 days evaluation and the program would not run. I don’t relay care about the program running. What I want to know is how come after It was removed in Add and Remove Programs, I also went through the register with three Registry cleaners, Reg Supreme / Reg First Aid / and System Mech. But there must have still been some reference to the program. I searched the Register by Program Name, by Program manufacture, and found nothing. So now I am looking for a Program to do this Properly. I have tried IN CTRL 5 it showed the changes, but there was no way to print it out. So was no help as there was so many changes it was impossible to remember them, and to many to write them all down. Thanks Guys both sexes.
Have a nice day.

Like you I have yet to find any program that cleans out the remnants of a program including Norton System Works. I do use JV16 Regcleaner, and at least it will show you what is left of the program and you can than delete it. It seems to work very well in 98 and not bad in XP either.

I too have installed shareware that does this. I believe that they alter something innocent or add an entry that a registry cleaner won't see. Could even be in a sub-folder for some other program. Guess they figure that if you want to use the program you'll pay. The only thing that works for sure is a re-install of the OS.

Thanks to both for your replies. And John T
I also have JV16 Reg Cleaner. Reg Supreme is by the same Co. and works very well in all scans, but I only use Very deep Scan. Again thanks for the input, have a nice day to both.

Oldhobo,

I have used InCtrl5 in the past and in it's folder I find three reports I created when I used it the three times.
The reports show all of the things that were changed. Mine are in HTML format that I can print out.

When you use Inctrl5 you make entries on the Configuration page. Half way down the page is the report specifications. This section also has the "Show old reports" button.
Look in Help,'Configuration page' to see it better.

Regmon from www.sysinternals.com will do what your asking. You would have to reinstall the game to see what is being written in the registry.

It may not even be writing to the registry. THere is some kind of hidden file somewhere on your computer. Doesn't have to be in the registry. The software scanns for whatever it is and if it finds it, knows that you have already had a trial period. Only way I know how to get rid of it for sure is to re-format.

Oldhobo,

I recommend RegVac & Regseeker. They seem to go deeper than any of a half dozen I have tried.

I've found RegSeeker particularly good at removing "valid" entries too. The risk is always there with registry cleaners. It pays to carefully check anything it wants to remove.

Hello Derek. Jeh. OtheHill. Sandman. Bryco.
Again thank you all for all your input. If I find a program and am able to remove the rubbish left I will post and let you all know. Have a nice day Guy's.

RegSupreme is a darn good registry cleaner that I ran across it last night. It found 1425 invalid entries when two other registry scanners found nothing. It isn't free but at $13 you can't beat it.

Check out the free trial at www.jv16.org

It obviously won't help this time but for the future:-

Make up a spare folder in C:\Windows called Compare.

Make up a batch file called Compare.bat and put it in the folder. This is the text for the batch file:

=====================================
FC before.reg after.reg > diff.wri
c:\progra~1\access~1\wordpad diff.wri
cls
=====================================

Before you install whatever proggy you are interested in, go to regedit and export the registry using the name before.reg

Repeat this after you have installed the proggy saving with the name after.reg

Double click the batch file and it will show the differences (from a file it makes in the same folder called diff.wri).

If you make a shortcut to regedit in the same folder it can all be done from there.

... I'd better add that it will find stacks of changes in quite a short time so it will require one heck of a lot of detective/guess work to fathom out whatever you happen to be looking for.

Because it concentrates on the changes it may not always have room to display the paths, so you might need to use the registry Find feature to work out where the particular changes are residing.
