Hi eham, hi everyone,

The Registry contains settings that can usually been found elsewhere in MSconfig, in Control Panel, etc. so, no, we couldn't say the Registry causes the problem... I mean it's not necessary to change things in the Registry itself! oodles of other tools, roughly:
- clean the disk (CleanMgr, Temp, TIF, cookies, Recycled Bin, etc.) that can be replaced by Delindex
plus empty Recycled Bin
- use a thorough disk cleaner such as EZ-Cleaner or JV16PowerTools
- use a Registry cleaner such as EZ-Cleaner or JV16PowerTools or RegSeeker
- ScanDisk
- Defrag for Win-ME

Have a good day,

I think my #2 there covers most of the slow-down things.

Hi All,

Additionally, a clogged registry can slow you down.

Restart in DOS mode and at the C:\> prompt type:
scanreg /fix
Hit enter and let it run and then
scanreg /opt
Hit enter and let it run it's course too.

I feel sure I read somewhere that scanreg /fix does optimizing too. I "think" WhitPhil was the one who said it.
