I can't understand why you'd want to, but, you can use the IPX/SPX protocol and NetBeui to achieve a similar result, but to be honest, TCP/IP is by far the better method. Why are you so desperate to avoid it?

You can use the netbeui protocol by itself. it doesn't allow for internet access but is by far the quickest protocol and doesn't have the overhead that tcp/ip does. tcp/ip allows for better network management and troubleshooting but adds about 20% overhead.
