Sounds like the display adapter driver didn't take.
Go into control panel, then system, when the propeties box comes up,goto device manager and hightlite your display adapter and remove it, restart and reinstall the driver.

Try going to your video card website and downloading the newest driver for you card if you can before you start.

do the same for you sound card, when you are done. (you might have a look before you start reinstalling the drivers)
goto control panel and click dispaly then settings, you can change you colors there.
With your sound goto control panel then multimedia look in the audio tab that your soundcard is selected under sound recording and the playback boxs.

After a OS reinstall, the first thing you should do is install your chipset drivers. These are on a CD that came with your motherboard.

Then you install (or upgrade in the case of onboard) you video drivers. Then your soundcard drivers. DirectX should then follow.

Once the above steps are done, you can begin loading software.

Installing in this order perevents software from configuring to incorrect hardware devices.
