You need a Windows 98 Boot up disk, then boot with out cd rom support, then once you get to dos prompt type c:
then type format c: and press y to begin

You dont really need to format it cause u just re-wrote over it by deleting the partition but its the best thing todo. also I'm pretty sure xp using Fat32 fileing system as opposed the the NFTS that win2k/nt uses but i dunno

After you format type d: or what ever your cd drive is(also your win98 drive makes a virtual drive and ussually takes over ur cd drive and ur cd drive drops a letter

so if its d: then it would be e:
so type e:
then install (i think its install I havent installed 98 in a while) if your not sure type dir/p and look at the files and you'll see the install file

from the A: prompt, type C:. Whatever your cd drive letter comes up as, type that letter, then from there, type "setup" without quotes. That's it. Good luck!

I forgot since you delted your partition you will need to create a partition
After you use ur win98 bootup disk and boot with out cd rom support and it gets to the A:/ prompt, Type "fdisk" with out the quotes. go through the process of creating a partition (you only need one since your only installing 1 os on ur hd). then after you create it you will need to format it, by doing the steps before.

also..

When your computer turns on there these computer settings call bios.. go into there when u turn on the computer, ussually its either f8-f12 or delete, look around in there ( BUT DONT CHANGE ANYTHING) and see if it detects your hard drive. cmos's are different depending on the mother board

It should detect it tho because you can access the c: in dos

Hi Ning..

Let me quote you: " i deleted the partition and now i dont have either xp or 98"..

First things first; you will need to create a new partition on which to put the OS.

Having done that, you will then format it.

That done, you may now install the OS.

Read (print out) the "How To" section on this site.

Start HERE

Have fun.

BTW Ning, I urge you to create two partitions, NOT just one.

That way you have somewhere to store files and so forth which will not be affected if/when you reformat the primary drive (the one Win is on; C:\).

Post if you need more help...

Hi again, Ning.

Listen, I'm not going to spend all afternoon describing in detail what has already been written, and is available to you if you'll just read the 'How To' sections...

However....

The order you follow is this:

1) Get a Win98 Bootdisk.
2) Start the PC WITH THE BOOTDISK IN THE DRIVE!
3)Create your partitions.
4)Format your partitions.
5)Install your Operating System

It's really very simple. Take a little time to read about it, print the instructions, and "just do it".

Lots of PC shops charge only like $100.00 to install an OS, you know. That includes getting all the drivers, which you haven't even begun to think about! Hmmm
