Comment:

I am going to attempt to reformat a friends computer (too many programs have been installed and uninstalled improperly). I have done it to 3 different computers in my house with success, but have never reformated a hardrive with partitions. They do not want the partitions anymore, so i will just be putting everything back on the C drive. I know how to erase the "C" Drive...how to I earase the other partition?

Thanks ,Greg

Oops...Sorry. I just reread the article that I linked to. It tells how to partition the HD, but doesn't tell how to unpartition the drive.

Boot with a bootdisk & at the A:\> prompt type:

fdisk (ENTER)

When asked whether or not to enable large disk support, answer (Y).

Choose option 3. Delete partition or Logical DOS drive. You'll need to delete, IN ORDER, logical drives, extended partition, primary partition(s). You are looking to delete ALL partitions on the HD. You will probably be warned about losing all data, and asked if you want to proceed. Answer (Y).

After all partitions have been removed, you may be prompted to reboot. Do so, if prompted. Then start fdisk as before. You will now have an unpartitioned HD. Create the new Primary DOS Partition as described in the previous link.

After the HD has been partitioned, you'll need to exit fdisk & reboot again. Then format your newly created partition & you're finished.

Good luck & post back if you have any problems.

Dave
