I am able to boot into safe mode and need to reformat a hard drive. The floppy drive is not recognized on boot for some reason either. Please help.

If you're trying to format the drive running windows, forget it.
If it's another drive, just right click it and choose format.
If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Just to make sure. Format wipes the drive clean and you lose everything. Is that what you want to do? Or do you want to reinstall windows? To boot from the floppy, make sure it's set as the first boot device. To enter the bios 'setup' routine, you need to watch the monitor carefully and type the correct key(s) when booting up.

If you are able to boot in safe mode, try the following: boot to dos standalone and type: scanreg /restore
Restore to a date before the problem.

Yes, I would like to format. Data is all backed up. I just can't boot from the floppy. The computer is not seeing it any longer.

When I try to boot to DOS, option 5, I get the Microsoft Plug and Play message and so on and then the cursor just blinks. It does not give me a prompt of any kind.

Did you make sure that the floppy drive is set first in the bios boot sequence? Reference response #4.

Yeah, there's a hard way to do an easy thing.
A bit like using a D8 Caterpillar to plant marigols.
If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

It's not obvious what that has to do with this.
