Hi all,
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. When I start my computer I get jumbled writing and lots of zeros all over my screen, when it has finally booted, I have red lines all over my screen. I have taken my display drivers off and reinstalled but the problem persists. What could be the problem?

is this right away or after windows starts up?
Either way, it's most likely either a videocard or video card driver problem.
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Since it is occurring before widows loads, the drivers won't make any difference. They are not loaded until just before you see your desktop.
This points directly at your video card. You could try reseating it (take it out and put it back in). If this does not work, you'll need a new one.

I have figured out the problem thanks guys. I have looked carfully at my video card and on the bottom of my computer sat a little chip which must have fallen off it, I took the graphics card out and hey presto I found where it should be. No chances of resolving this one, I think its time to get a new one!!! The problem is which one?
I am not the fastest of learners when it comes to computer technology and hope someone can help me on this.
O.K First of all I have (or did have before I found bits of it on the floor of my pc) a 3D Prophet DDR-DVI (GeForce 256DDR) Whatever that means, so if I were to look for something of a similar nature what could I get?

You won't be able to find a similar one. They only make ones that are much better.
Your best bet is to go to your favourite computer store and ask them what's available. Take note of the colour of the slot you rmoved the card from. If it is brown, you need an AGP card. If it is white, you'll be looking for a PCI one. It would also be a good idea to take the old one with you.
Don't let tem talk you into the latest and greatest card. The cheapest available will probably perform just as well with your hardware, as the most expensive one would.
