ok this is a strange problem and i KNOW it's the moniter because i've had two moniters with this computer (exactly the same ones), and this one is the only one with the problem like this.
there are several thin red lines going diagnolly across my screen. you can only see them when the screen is dark, and its really annoying when you put a black wallpaper on your desktop and there very noticable. i noticed tonight in my room where nothign else was on but my screensaver (which was black), the screen itself (besides the lines) was a very dark red. this is not right...im assuming its just some moniter setting thats messed up. it happens in all resolutions and it also happens when i boot up, so i dont think its the OS (win98se).
its a gateway ev700 17' moniter. the standard with a essensial 500 computer.
any ideas? no other moniter problems besides this...

something similar happened to me, I thought it was the g card, but after instaling the CORRECT drivers it worked fine.

if it is still under warranty, it is time to send it in for adjustment/repair.
if there is no warranty and you want to mess around with it, and possibly shock yourself..... take the cover off and find 3 wires going to the back of the picture screen, or in the wiring that goes there.
unplug the red wire.... no more red lines!!!!
or you could change the red wire for the green wire and have green lines.
prehaps you could find a little knob in there for prescreen raster controll and adjust yourself.

I wouldn't suggest going in to the back of any
monitor. CRT's retain 30,000 volts even after
shutting off AND unplugging. Leave this for
experienced techs ONLY!!!
