Comment:

Whenever I empty recycle bin, I get an error message that "Cannot remocve folder DC4: Access is denied." When the R/B is empty, it still shows the "full" icon, but the "empty recycle bin" option is grayed out.

I have no idea which program this is from. I used norton unerase to try to recover the "DC4" folder and go from there, but nothing was listed. I also restored previous registries, but nothing has helped.

Any ideas?

Boot up to dos mode and type
deltree c:\recycled
That will delete the recycle bin. Windows will create an empty one during the next start. If you have more than one drive, type it again for each drive.

I have had this problem before, its usually because of a file that too big for the recycle bin so gets deleted right off of he disk, BUT!! Noreton proteced recycle bin keeps it in there, even tho the norton bin shows empty . I have had boot to dos, cd th the correct hard drive recycle bin then set attributes to -h so i can see the norton recycled bin then fron there i can delet the rogue file.

Reboot and alll that space is recovered and no more annoying messages that the file can`t be deleted

My problem was such that the "empty recycle bin" option was missing, the folder itself had a 'folder' icon and not the 'recycle bin' icon, and the files inside had been renamed DC... etc. (Windows 98) Before my problems, the files kept their original names. I used the "deltree c:\recycled" command from DOS (not the MS-DOS prompt!). When I rebooted Windows, the recycle bin folder still did not appear! I decided to delete a file to see what happened. It was then that I learned that the Recycle Bin folder will not be recreated until something is actually deleted. The new Recycle Bin was created, complete with proper icon representation, and my deleted files now keep their original names. Thought I'd pass this on...
