Product: hp
Comment:

I need to install the whole recovery disk. It is the original that came with it. When i select the option that says recover, it works, then i click i click either format and install(or whatever its called) or the intall(or whatever its called). And whichever one i choose, it must lock up, unless it takes longer than 7pm-8am to install. so thats just a few hours. is it froze or just slow?

What is the reason you have decided to run this Recovery procedure - what symptoms did you have? You can't fix all problems with a Recovery CD.

The Recovery CD or CD set must be in reasonably good shape so that it(they) can be read without any errors, your CD drive must be capable of reading it properly, and your hard drive and computer in general must be okay.

Try cleaning the CD(s), and using a laser lens cleaning CD in the CD drive.

If that doesn't help, if you have another CD drive available or can install one, install it and try the Recovery CD in that.

If that doesn't help, on another computer go to the website of the manufacturer of the hard drive and download a diagnostic utility download, execute the download to have it make a floppy or 2 floppy set, boot your computer with the bootable floppy (the only one or the first one) and run the diagnostic(s) on your hard drive - usually there are two, a quick and a longer one - run both.
If the hard drive itself fails the tests (errors in the data organization on the drive can be fixed) you will need to get yourself another hard drive.
If the hard drive itself passes the tests(errors in the data organization on the drive can be fixed), there is something else wrong with your computer.

Without you stating what brand name system computer model you have, I can't give you an idea of how long it should take, but it probably shouldn't be more than maybe 3 hours in any case.

It would be worthwhile jotting down the exact choices you mention as "or whatever its called" so that we can better understand the problem.

... I suspect this 'confusion' is not limited to computers alone, but likely pervades many other aspects of the OP's relation to the world in general (based on recent postings)

Sometimes they get that number from the modem - although it could be 64Mb - 8(VRAM) = 56

Your hard drive might have died. More info about why you are trying to use the recovery CD might indicate if that's the case or not.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

You are awfully sparse on details.
Lots of things can make your hard drive crash or not boot into Windows anymore.
Test your hard drive as in response 1, and tell us what the results are.
