Recording streaming video played from Windows Media Player?

Does anyone know of a way or a program to record a movie with sound that is playing on Windows Media Player? I am downloading .asx and .asf streaming video, and the only way I can think of to download a copy of the file for myself is to get a program that records what is being played on Windows Media Player at the same time that it is being played. Problem is that all video capture programs I've seen will only record from television, camera, etc. and won't record from the computer back to the computer. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey try this instead, when you download or stream a file, it is temporaraly stored in a folder called temporary internet files. just look for the file in there. It might not be named what you would expect so look for the larger files with the extention you would expect. Then just save that file somewhere else for later retrieval.

I actually tried that and it didn't work for me, but several people have told me that it does for them. Maybe I have my settings wrong. What player should I use? Any settings to cache the whole clip to memory?

Create a separate directory called 'cache' then set the internet temporary file to that directory, using control panel, internet. The last file played should be accessible from the 'File' menu again.

Nope, I tried that. The movie I'm trying to get is 20 minutes long, but no files show up bigger than 200k. I'm trying to get the movie from atomfilms.com and they've put up a slew of precautions to keep people from doing what I'm trying to do, so it doesn't load to my hard drive. Any other ideas?

Legal schmegal. It's only wrong if I sell it and make a profit, which I don't intend to do. If I have a copy for my personal use on my hard drive and don't put it on the Internet or what not, that's not illegal. I looked it up. ;D

Real Networks is suing a company called Streambox over this as we speak. Streambox invented a "vcr" for streaming media and evidently Real doesn't like the competition. There is a temporary injunction... I've not yet heard of a similar product for WMP but I'm still looking!
