Receoverying files from dead drive

Hello;
Ok my I have Windows 98 The hard drive is dead has errors in it will not boot to operating system..or will it format ... Ok is there a way to save any files from the hard drive.? and if so how would one do this... would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks

OK if you have a spare hdd install it as slave and boot off a boot diskette. then copy your files to the new hdd (if you can access it at all that is.. if you cannot the only way is a data recovery company like ontrack. but thats real expensive..)

If you can't access the drive at all, you will have to take it to a Data Recovery service. VERY VERY expensive.

YOU can only recover if the drive still has some life in it. Just because it won't boot does not mean the drive is dead - could be just the boot sector. If the drive is still alive and FAT is still there - attach it as a slave on another system and boot. Then drag and drop your files to this other drive.

I agree that Data Recovery services are very expensive - and no guarentee on the data that you are looking for is even retrieved.
