After installing a Realtek RTL8139(A) Fast Ethernet NIC card and turning machine on. Windows 98 picked up new hardware and began to install drivers for it. The win98 CD did not have the required driver so I choose the one supplied on disk with the adaptor. All went fine - windows told me to reboot. So I did. Whilst rebooting the black dos based screen appeared stating that vnetsup.vxd, dfs.vxd and another file??.vxd (sorry bad memeory) had either been deleted or were no longer in use (but still in the registry). It said press space to continue anyway so I did, then when windows did finally boot a pop-up box stated that msnp32.dll could not be found. I have tried uninstalling, reinstall, removing the missing files from the regedit directory all it does is make windows think about booting for a long time entering. Is there a better way to install this card or fix the problem..
Summary: LoL! This problem might be kinda complex (i.e. reinstall Windows, but plz don't say it, because this windows custom-config i have is kinda complex too). Ok, I tried installing DirectX-8.0, thought it ...
Summary: Thanks for all the help everyone... MikeE, no I am not using a hub just direct cable connection with one cable crossed over. Cannot get either computer to find the other... used "net diag" and "ping" ...
