Realtek 8139 PCI Ethernet Card

Comment:
I am trying to configure a Realtek 8139 PCI ethernet card in Win95. PnP recognizes the card and Windows loads the appropriate drivers. However, I keep getting a device error. I've downloaded the updated win95 driver from Realtek's web site, but I get the identical error. Anybody have some suggestions? Thanks for your help.

the error code 1f6 means that your card it dead. I just had that error and put in a 2nd card and it worked find the card was bad. I would just go out and buy a new $9 nic.

Try to download this newer version of driver (support foe W2k too) from this site http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/drivers/files/adapters/dfe538.htm It seem that old drivers cannot support PnP BIOS from newer mainboard. Its working from me (and throw away my headache too)... hopefully its working for U too... If this still happen, i suggest u try other NIC

Is the Realtek 8139 NIC the same or basically the same card as the D-Link 538TX?
I have problems with both that are quite similar to other things mentioned here. With the D-Link 538 TX NIC I get the "1f6" error code when trying to install drivers.
With the RTL8139 NIC it doesn't seem to be able to handle TCPIP. It works with NETBEUI but not TCPIP.
If anyone has a fix or knows where one can get some good drivers please let me know...if nothing else guess I'll try a 3COM card...they've always been foolproof for me.
