reading compaq recovery disks

how do you extract the info off a compaq recovery disk , such as ms works . onto another machine ,,,,, rom wont read whats on disk

Somebody wiser may be able to comment but I think it maybe that the Compaq HD has a special section on it which allows you to read these disks.
In other words you are out of luck unless you are into some pretty complex extraction process.

Derek, that would be a grand idea if only Compaq would take the hint. Actually, it is almost impossible to read one of those things. I have done my share of picking one apart looking for a driver for a pci bridge about a year ago. Never did find it. Ended up using the damn restore disk to reinstall stuff the way Compaq wants it. The reason you can't read them? First off, they are set up that files and drivers for 10 different models are packed onto one cd rom. Well sometimes 2. Then each folder is labled with a set of numbers. Inside these numbered folders are tons upon tons of zipped up cab files, and you better belive, more numbers. No lettered lables any where you look. So if anyone else out there has an idea how to crack the Compaq code, I'm willing to listen. In the mean time Derek, drop me a line sometime.
