OK.... first off... Tahnks to all those who helped me on my first posting about this. 2nd... I set up my second hard drive as a slave and went into the BIOS and set it to auto-detect. When I fired it up my hard drive that came with the computer spit and sputtered and it seemed to hang for a while and was taking forever to start up Win98. Then I got the error... couldn't read the scan reg. I rebooted in safe mode and fixed that problem and I'm back at the start again. What could I have done wrong ? I know that's a very open question, but I'm still clueless. Any ideas besides... F**K it ? Thanks, Rob

Well right off the top of my head I would check the jumper settings on older hard drive. Some have a different setting for Master/Single drive and Master/w Slave drive. Another thing is that if the drives are not from the same manufacture (in some rare cases even if they are) they may not be compatible with each other. If the latter happens you can always put the second hard drive as master on the secondary IDE.
If you end up putting your second hard drive as master on the secondary IDE buss, don't forget to change your CMOS settings to look for the drive in that position.
Also, if you want more reading on the subject, the article below is on adding a second drive.
