Comment:

I just bought a new computer and when I installed windows it was accessing the floppy drive every time I opened Internet Explorer and every message I received/sent on AOL Instant Messenger. I read some posts on here about virus scanners and screen savers causing this problem, but that wasn't the case with mine.

Mine was a path in Autoexec.bat

Open Autoexec.bat and scroll down until you see PATH= and look to see if A:\ is there, if it is, that might be your problem.
(If you are running windows 98 then you can go to Start, Run, then type in msconfig and hit the Autoexe.bat tab to check.

Thanks, I hope this helps some of you out

Chris

Also, right-click MY COMPUTER, click PROPERTIES - PERFORMANCE - FILE SYSTEM. Remove the checkmark from "Search for new floppy disk - - -" in the FLOPPY DISK tab, click Apply - OK, then reboot.
