Hi people, I got a question, well two questions. Is it true that if you have more than 256 MB RAm will slow down the Win 98 operating system? Second question is, is it true that Windows 98 only see's 128 MB Ram? Please reply or send me E-Mail at mat1231@prodigy.net

Hi,
Umm, I'm pretty sure the first question is untrue.. how would it slow down your computer? And I am positive the second question is untrue, because I currently have 256MB RAM on my computer running Win98.

Win98 will see more than 256 mb of RAM but wont really utilise it very well, so going for more wouldnt make a great deal of difference to most users.

Windows can see and use up to 2GB of memory. It's the Mobo that has to also be able to address that amount of ram.
If the programs you are running need the memory installed, windows WILL utilise it well.
And, if your apps do not require that much memory, then of course, windows will not utilise it well. In fact, it might not use it at all.The only thing that has to be done with ram above 512MB is to constrain vcache to 512 or less.

Well just yesterday i installed 256MB of ram to my 128. SO now i have 3 128MB of ram witch equals to 384. Well ever since I installed the RAM, my Operating System has been running slower. I don't know why. I thought more RAM the better. I guess its the opposite.
