Hi Guys,

This is for those with older Thinkpads laptops, or even those who know about them:)

I have a 760ED. I bought a Kingston 32Mb memory module. The computer listed 64Mb correctly, but kept having registry errors and crashes.

I then bought an Apricorn special DIMM carrier, since it turns out I have one of the faulty DIMM carriers IBM made which won't allow over 32Mb (what luck).

The Apricorn Carrier has memory built-in, and allows more than 64Mb for the Thinkpad, which was originally its maximum.

I plug in the new Kingston memory (32Mb) into the first slot, old memory (16Mb) into the second. I get a registry error every time I start up! The memory is displayed on startup as 84Mb.

I switch so 32Mb in slot 2, 26Mb in slot 1. Still errors!

With only 32Mb Kingston in the DIMM, no errors, but no performance increase either, and the startup screen doesn't scroll through the memory! It's only listed System Information in Device Manager.

Can someone please help me?
What is wrong?

Thank you
Janos

Their is alot of funky things that can happen
because new technology is comming out every day

one of most popular memory upgrades is pny
they have alot of questions and facts that you might find very helpful

if you find you what type of motherboard you have

then if you look that up
it will tell you what kind of memory to put in it

one slot might only take up to 64 megs
you might be putting a 128 meg chip in

their are alot of other tings check their web site out you might find it very helpful

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your reply.

However, Kingston said this memory was made for the 760ED.

Also pny.com does not list the 760ED strangely!

What may cause memory to not be accepted, and not displayed on a startup screen?

I have spent all this money on the RAM and carrier, and they don't work!:(

Thank you,
Janos
