i just bought a pc100 256mb ram stick for my computer. i installed it and all, but the computer doesn't even look for it. and to add to that, it's only using half of the ram... i have 2 sticks of 64mb, then i bought the new one. instead of having 384mb for ram, i only have 256! what could have gone wrong? thank you for your time.

Most BIOS automatically detect RAM and don't visibly "look for it". Your shortfall may be due to a limitation on how much RAM you can install in a slot. Look at your MB manual.

Did you check to see what and how much ram the motherboard slots were capable of using? If you did not, try the Crucial website and use the memory upgrade configurator to see exactly what your system needs. Some systems can use only use a maximum amount for each slot, you cannot assume that 256 is what your system can use. I have an old Dell that uses 32 max, a Gateway that uses 128 max. and a new computer that can use up to 512 max. for each slot.

Goto www.crucial.com and it will show you the limit of your memory slot.
