Could be a virus.

Run an online check at Antivirus.com > free tools

Also, startup the windows resource meter and keep an eye on the resources as you use the system.

Also, Antivirus programs as well as firewall software ect ect will eat up resources.

If you can hear a faint crunching sound then it is the Langoliers virus by Steven King.

Otherwise it may be the Windows Virus where using an operating system will use RAM. But that is what RAM is made for.

Windows98Plus meaning plus more RAM?

Another solution would be, if you have 3 sticks of RAM, to pull two sticks out of the PC case so then you will be guarenteed to have at least that amount of free RAM that will definately never get used up.

You will be sitting fat in free RAM.

Other than the above I can only suggest a free online virus scan at Housecall

Hmm. I wonder if you may not quite get the point that was being made by whoever it was on #2.

I think what he/she was trying to say is that it is quite normal and proper for W98 to use as much RAM as it can get it's hand on rather than do slow interchanges with Virtual memory on the HD. Spare RAM is pointless, so perhaps you have some other symptom.

As mentioned by others I gather there is a RAM eating virus about, so it's well worth checking.
