Comment:

Every Time I run Quicktime 6 it adds the following line to my registry "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime in
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. (which I delete after EVERY use of Quicktime) In the Quicktime preferences I have unchecked the Quicktime system Icon option but after each time I use Quicktime it goes ahead and adds that entry back into my registry. This is beginning to annoy me. Has anyone else experienced this?
Has anyone found out if this program qttask.exe is doing anything but making the load time of Quicktime faster?
Thanx

I don't know if this will give you errors in QuickTime but renaming qttask.exe to something like qttask-.exe will make it impossible for the system registry to load the file because it won't be able to find it.

Heres a little fix, click on start button, then click on run and type "msconfig" with out the quotes. then when your in system configuration, click on the start up tap and remove any check next to any program you don't want to start, then on the very bottom click on "ok" and you will NEVER have that program ever auto start again, unless you either re-run msconfig or reinstall the program but the don't worry the program still runs fine. I have done this on my own machine and it runs great.

Hi, here's some news on that qttask.exe file. Even If you remove it by unchecking the box in msconfig startup, it will check itself back when your browser has to use quick time. Even if you uncheck start quick time at stratup in the program.

Also I notice that real 1 player does the same. Anyone has a suggestion to this amazing pain in the buttocks situation.

How to PERMANENTLY remove tkbellexe and qttask.exe from the startup items / msconfig.

This will work for the "self-check-ing" startup items RealOne and Quicktime.
After you do this qttask.exe and tkbellexe will not re-apperar in the startup list unless you re-install or rollback.

a)close QuickTime/RealOne (all incl. SystemTray stuff)
b) rename the files that are called in msconfig:
___
RealOne:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\evntsvc.exe
___
Quicktime:
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe
___

c)remove the entries from
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
or other locations. StartupCop does a good job if you don't like deleting registy keys manualy

d) REBOOT

&

e) TEST if ya like
