Does anyone know how to arrange the icons in the quick launch toolbar in alphabetical order automatically?

Honest answer - No.

But your quick launch bar is limited to some 9.4 inches or 24 cm max (depending on your monitor size). You can drag the icons around into any order you want which seems like a reasonable way forward to me.

Takes a few mins to deal with all the existing ones but new additions can then be pulled into place very quickly.

Gotta feeling I've missed the point here (don't worry gserve I've been known to miss the point before LOL).

Open Quick Launch right click anywhere there's a blank space and choose Sort By Name

Hey Lorraine

Help this old fellah. I'm on W98SE and I right clicked a blank part of the Quick Launch bar and never got a Sort option.

Does SE not have this?
or do I have to be setup for Web Style?
or am I doing something wrong?

(I agree the last possibility is tricky LOL).

Hi Derek
It should work I use Win98SE also and it works for me, do it again and see if you get the Arrange Icons option if so pick by name

If this comes through twice I'm Sorry.

Hi Lorraine

Sorry had to go AWOL. If you are still watching, my right click options on the Quick Launch bar are:

Show Text
Refresh

Cascade Windows
Tile Windows Horizontally
Tile Windows Vertically

No sign of a "sort" - it may have gone missing. I once lost Copy Disk in a Context Menu, that I eventually found was due to a missing CLSID entry in the registry.

If you are a registry person, and have time, it would be interesting if you could search for any registry entries for Quick Launch Context Sort.

Don't go overboard, it's somewhat academic - I can live without it.

I am unable to figure out how to Open Quick Launch if it is already displayed but if I close Quick Launch and then re-open it then it opens with the items in alphabetical order by name.

Ok try this got Start +Find+Files and Folders
Type in Quich Launch then click on Find scroll down till you find Quick Launch double click on it... once it opens right click on a blank space and a menu will open and Arrange Icons should be in the list..put your mouse on the little arrow to the right of 'arrange icons" and another menu will open then click on "by name"
Good Luck

What I did, which I think is what you had in mind, was go to the Quick Launch folder (I've been there before) and re-arrange icons there.

This worked fine of course. It didn't "immediately" change the order in the actual quick launch bar, but did so when I closed the bar and then re-opened it. Neat thought - I should have realised the bar would ultimately reflect the WE folder order.

No idea why I haven't got a sort option in the Quick Launch bar context menu, like you have, but that's Windows for you I guess.

Thx for your interest.

Glad you got them arranged.
I make folders in Quick Launch and then drag
things into them.. like I make a folder for Games and then drag any games I have in quick launch into that folder makes it easier to find stuff as I have alot of proggies in my quick launch folder

Me too, I've got all my sound stuff as icons inside a folder in Quick Launch. Handy if you are grabbing stuff from the net.
