When I move my Excel icon from the desktop to the quick launch bar it turns into the mouse icon. What gives???

The ShellIconCache file may be full, therefore Explorer is choosing the wrong icon. A quick fix is to boot into safe mode and the restart in normal mode, this will rebuild the ShellIconCache file.

Imran, Did you by chance have a mouse icon in your quicklaunch before? Try clicking on the 2 small arrows on the right of your quick launch and see if the Excel icon appears on the pop-up list. Just a thought.
