I created a web site on yahoo. Eventually, in about less than a year, we are going to start a business. The free site is the start. someone emailed us saying to move it away from yahoo because they own your site. I thought even if you paid for a host its on their server and they would own it also? You would just own your domain name. What does he mean?
Also, he said he couldnt view it correctly because of some diamonds i had place between some word on the site because he was using netscape. I had someone i know check it out using netscape and they had no problems. What do you think is the problem?
If i did pay for a host where should i look? I really dont want to pay an arm and leg for one. I would just like to have www.ourname.com for the address.
Im new at this as you can tell and any advice would be great. Thanks all for your help

Twins, huh? Cool....
I won't claim to be any sort of expert, however, a couple things to think about.
Just for "image" sake, utilizing a "free" webhost doesn't "look right". That is, I am quite sure if your page's source code is viewed, there will be all sorts of yahoo garbage in the header. In other words, I would suspect yahoo (or equiv) would be using thier own scripts to collect data on your visitors, etc.In addition, I know that these "free" webhosts often limit you as to the tools you can use. I.E. ,not being able to use your own cgi scripts, etc.
I won't presume to suggest one host over another: do research. You will find hosts in a wide range of prices, and support, etc.
Well, that's my two cents worth! Best of luck to you!

(Web Hosting) and search through the cheaper services & other plans that are available.
I recommended ValueWeb for a company I used to work for, it was fairly cheap, it allowed the right amount POP3 (email accounts) at a very cheap price & unlike Yahoo email accounts there was no limitation to the size or amount of email that could be sent to your Domain & yes you can register your Domain name (www.yourname.com). This Host may not be very good if you plan on alot e-commerce for that plan on spending a much larger amount for higher quality services.
Good Luck

Read the Terms of Service for your Yahoo web site. If I remember correctly, there is mention of Yahoo having the right to use your content, presumably for their marketing needs (i.e. typical use demonstrations?).

I use Tripod for my webhosting. Yes it is free, but they do offer upgrades. Like for $4.95 a month you get no topbanner, and of course you can pay for as much as you want. I calculated a maximum of $150 a month by time you got the extra bandwith and all. I can't tell you if there is any thing in their terms of service that says they can use anything on your site or not. Who reads those things anyway? But the point is, you want your own domain. Yes this is accomplishable with Tripod, though I can't say it would be feesible for you. You have to look at your product/service line you are looking to market. It is a free product/service type thing? Or will there be a profit margin for you involved? And if so how big of a profit margin? And how much captial are you looking to put out up front to get your business off the ground? And in case anyone else wonders before I started pressing tuxedos or working on computers I went to school for Business Management. Need 12 more classes but never finished. But these would be the questions to ask yourself. What do I have to offer? How do I want to present it? How much do I have to spend? Now as I said if you plan on a large profit margin from your product/service my suggestion would be to go straight to a company like: E-Commerce. They, like all other webhosts out there offer domain hosting and have different price packages. They also will set you up with a shopping basket to accept master card/visa. They approached me last year and offered me this setup for $125, then so much every month after that. I don't remember all the details because it was just out of my price range to pay that for a free computer help site. So all I can say is weight out what your options are before you commit to anything.
