Question about MSCDEX.EXE and CD-ROM

Comment:
I recently reformatted y HD, and now I can't get my computer to recognize my CD-ROM drive, so I can't reinstall WIN98. I have tried to reinstall the drivers, but it says it can't find MSCDEX.exe. I copied MSCDEX.exe from the Windows startup disk to my had drive, but the CD-ROM drivers still can't find it.
This is all very frustrating, especially since I have done this before and the 98 startup disk never had any trouble. Any help would be appreciated.
Just use the startup disk to reinstall. Check that it has the correct line in both the autoexec.bat and the config.sys

Having MSCDEX on you hard drive won't matter in this case. You need a boot disk that will start MSCDEX in a "DOS environment". If you want I can e-mail you my boot disk and let you know what to do. Just respond before I go to bed and I send it to you.

Oh ya.... Your Win98 CD should "auto-boot" from the cd-rom... Make sure your BIOS is setup right to detect a bootable cd-rom (it would have something to do with the "boot sequence". I'll still send you my disk if you need it.
