ptsnoop.exe HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok..i was helping my g.f clean out her computer and we came across this ptsnoop program running.So i looked it up and the 1st several messages i seen.."its a virus trojan" etc..so i deleted it as several messages had said..THEN..i fixed it in the win.ini file so it wouldnt try and load it anymore at startup..so she tried 2 get on AOL and her modem is all messed up..it cannot find a dialtone and i looked it up some more..and i see where it says that..some modems use the ptsnoop.exe as part of the thing that makes the modem work..she has none of the disks that came with her computer..how do we fix this? PLEASE HELP? thanks

You will need to reinstall the modem drivers. Post back with the make and model of the modem.

Ptsnoop.exe is part of some modems driver package and as you've found out, sometimes the first Google page you find is not necessarily the best one. Reinstall the modem drivers as Krystyna suggested. They might be on the motherboard cd.

spent the last few days deconflicting my system...I had always wondered what Ptsnoop was myself.....I found it was a file for my PCTel HSP56 modem.....since I'm not using that modem in this system, I deleted them....I use a Winmodem here....I have the files if you need to recover them.....I guess thats alright isn't it? Any way.....contact me if you need them......
Summary: Thanks for the help folks. I had that nasty little trojan Ptsnoop.exe also. I deleted it and tried to locate it in win.ini but it did not exist. So I rebooted and ran Norton again. No problemo any...
