Do you have Paint Shop Pro? That is the file that starts Paint Shop. If you've un- installled Paint Shop you may need to open some other photo editing program and make it the default program for opening graphics files.

Right here you go fruitcake a geniune explaination cuz I feel so sorry for you. Oh buy the way if there good and I mean good Jpg's E-mail me some.

Click on my computer and click on the view drop down menu. Select folder options (or options under 95) now select file types from the three menus at the top.

click in the window registered file types.

now press the key 'P' you should move down the screen to a program starting with the letter P. move down till you find 'Paint shop Pro 5 image' and click once on it then click remove.

Next time you try to open a Jpg it will ask you what package your would like to use choose Iexplorer or another package capable of viewing JPG

The happy helper

I opened "paint" and drew a couple of lines, saved it as a bitmap. Then closed it. After reopening the file, I no longer get the error message.

In light of putting myself up for some of the nasty comments I see above, I have a similar question. I have Print Shop Pro 6 installed and am trying to install the upgrade. I am getting the error message that "psp.exe is not a valid previous version". I'm not sure what that means. I do have Print Shop 4 on my machine but don't know what to do to get past this message. Any suggestions? Please refrain from the vulgar answers. It helps neither of us, okay.

I still had the same problem with psp.exe after I tried your suggestions. Called JASC and they told me to highlight the Image file I was having a problem with, press the Shift key and then right click the mouse button. Select "Open with" the program I wanted to open the Image file with and check off "always use this program to open this type of file" and click OK. I am no longer having problems.
