I've tried a number of different mice, mice that I know that work on other machines (and work again on the other machines when I plug them back in)...
I've tried to remove the device and have plug and play find it. It does, installs it, asks to reboot. After reboot, it shows the yellow '!' next to it in the Device Manager. When I go to the add new hardware dialog, it finds the PS/2 Port Mouse and asks if that is the device I want to install. I select it and it comes back with the dialog: " This device is already installed, but it has a problem. To view properties for the device, and to see the problem and proposed solution, click Finish."When I click finish I get the PS/2 Port Mouse Properties dialog. On the General tab it say Hardware version: Not available
Device status: 'This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the file (vmouse.VXD) that loads the drivers for the device (Code 8.) To fix the problem, run Windows Setup again using your Windows CD-ROM'
Unfortunatly I don't have my original CD-ROM Windows 98 that came with my system. I thought if I upgraded to Windows ME, that might help. So I upgraded without any problems but I still don't have any mouse. I've run setup again with no luck. The Driver FIle Details shows two Driver Files: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMOUSE.VXD and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMOUSE.VXD. The date and size of these files are as follows (Note, I didn't seem to have the VMOUSE.VXD file on my system and I downloaded a version off the internet, I have also tried the above after removing the VMOUSE.VXD from the system).
CMOUSE.VXD: 18,284 bytes Modified 8/31/1999 9:26 AM
VMOUSE.VXD: 33,332 bytes Modified 5/5/1999 9:22 PM
I've tried running update driver from the PS/2 Port Mouse Properties dialog and that informs me that I have the latest drivers.
On the Resources tab it says the Resource Type is 'Interrupt Request' Setting '12' and lists no conflicts on the Conflicting device list.Do you have any idea on how I can get a mouse to work on my machine?
Thanks in advance

I think you need to download just a generic mouse driver (mouse.drv). Remove the .vxd drivers. I've never been able to get a .vxd to work. You can probably get a generic driver from logitech's site.

Also, you might check your Add/Remove Programs box and see if a special driver is installed. If so, get rid of it and see if you can get the Plug and Play to load your driver. (A malfunctioning Logitec driver was installed on my Compaq which prevented me from installing the Windows generic driver. I got rid of it and the Windows driver loaded properly.)
