Program has performed an illegal op

at bootup I get message this program has performed illegal operation and will be shut down. How do I get rid of this Thanks for any help..

There's no specific cure for that as it can have many causes. First of all, what happened to it between the last time it worked OK and the first time it didn't? Did you add or remove any programs? Did you change any hardware? Did the computer experience any physical damage, etc?

it must have been the new program installed. disable it in the startup in msconfig. or better yet uninstall the said program that perform illegal operations in the add/remove programs in control panel.

Hit F8 on startup, choose command prompt. Type in scanreg /restore .....notice the space between scanreg and / (Choose a backup to restore.)
That should fix your problem
