Profile copys Default

i created a new profile from inside the master one,i chose the setting create new items to save space and unchecked the documents and something box. and then when i logged into it, all the settings from my default profile were still copied. the only one i really noticed is the desktop. any tricks to keep these profiles seperated would be appreciated.
