Hello: When I connect to Trend Micro to scan my Computer, it will not stay connected. Sometimes it locks up the computer, so I have to turn the power off. Thanks Billy the Kid
Not sure about this but perhaps there is some nasty or other on the machine that is reacting to the scan. Could be worth trying someone else's scan first. If it finds something try Trend again after it's been fixed.
What virus checker and anti-malware programs do you use?
Hello: I tried it on two different machines, one time after about 4 hrs, it was just sitting there, I moved the cursor, and it dropped everthing back to the desktop screen. I run Zonealarm Thank you Billy the kid
Well, unless it's unsuitable for W98SE then it seems odd that it fails on two different machines (unless they are having site problems).
Give me a link to the website you were using and I'll have a sniff around. It probably won't be tonight because it's the early hours here in the UK - although someone else might have a look.
ZA fine. What virus checker are you using (if any) and do you have any anti-malware products such as Ad-Aware on board?
Hi I have windows 98se and ran trend micro house call and it shut down Explorer and gave me error messages. It says that to do its scan in downloads 1.5 mgs to your computer. I probably have something blocking the download. I have Kaspersy AV , Zone Alarm, Spy Bot, Spyware Blaster and Ad-Aware.
For a long time (maybe 4 years or so) I used the Trend Micro online scan exclusively for anti-virus protection even though with nothing else that meant the benefits came with the fact that infections had to occur first occur. The reason was because of keeping older pc in use with minimal programs running; most internet games, web page graphics, etc. use far more resources now than years past and even my anti-virus was using far too much to be able to do anything. I also noticed problems with the site for my machine since earlier this year, and whether some problems are caused by your pc or not, I have no doubt much of it is from the changes they made. The first change that began problems that I noticed was when they required use of Sun Java instead of Microsoft VM; if you didn't have it installed and enabled, it would not work. (The alternate scan the site 'offered' if you didn't want to use the java scan was NEVER possible to enable and I tried, including removing their folders and temp files which then allowed the visibility of the options change but it just would not happen). I was eventually able to use it from that change alone but then the java requirements were changed again back to VM. Since then I have had the same or similar problems with using Trend Micro online scan. I emailed them for support and was offered links for downloading offline system scan, although at that time their links were bad; I was later able to use it after finding updating links (I believe from their web site). The point is I was getting very similar errors; java errors (logged), an apparent continuous loop of downloading their files which would not end, or just an ending of its actions before completing without an ability to scan. I know that I had some malware present at first which was removed by Ad-Aware but I still could not get it to work immediately after that. To this day I have not found any other malware from other scans to indicate the problem was originating from my pc, but I will not rule out that a combination of quirks may be responsible with emphasis on win98 systems and speeds of your pc and internet connections. Personally, I would suggest other free online scans, having AVG on your pc (I only use its free edition right now), and at least 2 adware/spyware scanners (most advisor reviews I've seen recomment at least 3). I don't want to say Trend Micro is no good because I used it successfully for a long time but for my system it has been recently having severe problems such as what you are experiencing.
