Problems with setup of Office 97

I have a Compaq 4770 computer with a W95 operating system. I had Office 4.3 on the computer and was upgrading by replacing with Office Pro 97 off a cdrom. Setup started OK by removing the prior Office application and checking for disk space (plenty there). However, when the program commences to install Office 97 it is halted by setup message dialog boxes stating setup "could not read e:/(then name of the Office 97 file)". Has my W95 operating system been modified to where it cannot read the Office installation. I have had no prior problems with installations of other applications/games. Diagnostics (scandisc, etc.) did not show any problems and I shut down all other applications during the installation (leaving only systray and explorer open). Any thoughts on this problem? Thanks in advance for the help.
Howdy, Sounds like you have a problem with the office CD-ROM you are using. You might try cleaning the CD as well as using CD-ROM drive cleaner and see if that makes a difference. Any other details you can give will help as well.
