hi again! I just recently was formating my PC for a clean install of a new OS. I'm trying to upgrade from windows 98SE to windows 2000 pro. everything went fine, formated the HDD, formated it with the NTFS disk format, install windows 2000, And now heres the problem. After most of everyting was done with installing it, it says it will reboot in 15 seconds or somthing like that. Ok it reboots and after that, the screen that says "verifieing DMI pool data..." it hangs... nothing happens.. notta.. zip.. The hdd isnt even reading. the only thing going on is the floppy drive is lit up with no disket inside.. I reboot over and over again but only to find the exact same result.. So what could it be? Could it have somthing to do with the jumpers? is it windows 2000? or is my HDD just worth crap.. I hate to sound like a newbie on this (which I dont claim to be one) but please help me out.. I'm so sick of win 98SE
Got Geek?

Maybe a post in the windows 2000 forum? There are people there who work with it every day. (Not to say there aren't any here of course. I know there are.) Response ~may~ be quicker.

Yeah - the drive has been wiped and setup as NTFS, Win2K is theoretically installed (?) - not really a Win98 issue.
"I'm so sick of win 98SE"
.. and Win2k is working out how?
I'm not insensitive, I just don't care.

Yeah I was going to post it in the win2k forum just havent gotten around to it yet. I'll do that right now. As for win2k working how? its better then win 98 :P. besides I got it for free from a friend so why not?
Got Geek?

oh and btw no win2k is not installed. At least not anymore. After the problem with it I just deleted the NTFS partion and reformated it back to fat32 and tried to install it again. yet I got the same result.. So I formated it once again and installed win98 SE. It works now.. but still needing to find an answer as to what went wrong..

Generally, problems with a particular OS boil down to 'user error' - considering that thousands of people manage to get by quite handily with 98SE. If you're looking for folks to share your view, this probably isn't the right forum for that either.
Sure doesn't sound like it's working all that well.. but what do I know?
Interesting approach though - I should take my Ford to the VW dealership for repairs - I'll just tell them "Well, I used to drive a Bug."

There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works.

Hello chaps
The "Verifying DMI pool data" issue is related to hardware or BIOS issues.
W2K is less forgiving than Win 98, so I would suggest you try going into the BIOS and choose to load BIOS defaults.
Good luck

That may well be it - just seems a trifle jejune to blame the OS - they all have their benefits & limitations.
The tale continues in Win2K

I never said I was blameing the OS.. its just weird how I can run windows 98SE just fine on it.. yet I cant install windows 2000 pro cause it gets stuck on the "verifieing DMI pool" screen. I also used an older hdd a while back to see how well windows 2000 pro ran on the system without messing up my man HDD. it worked just fine. no errors at all. why wont I use that instead? its slow as hell and it only has 3 gigs lol. But I will try the diffrent things I've been told recently. Thanks for all the advice guys.
