my kids computer has had this ongoing problem that I have been unable to resolve.
IE6 cannot find the internet connection through our LAN (three other computers are working just fine). I have tried a host of fixes many recommended here on this great board, but nothing has worked so far. Now, I would like to uninstall and reinstall IE6, but I cannot find IE6 on my install/uninstall
list, or any uninstall program in the IE6 folder. How can I accomplish a clean uninstall? The other problem this computer is having is a messege box constantly popping up saying
that windows explorer has performed an illegal operation and will now close. Under details it says it is some sort of kernal 32 problem. Is there a way to uninstall, and reinstall windows explorer?Lastly, do you think the above mentioned uninstalls/reinstalls if possible will help, or are they going to be just more ill fated attempts to remedy this computer?
Thanks to all, for all the Help!

You can't uninstall IE6 from within Window$. It's an integrated part of the system. There is a program called IE Eraticator, but i don't recommend this. I did it and it messed up the whole OS. You can try a repair from Contro; Panel / Add Remove programs . Scroll down until you see IE6 and internet tools. Highlight it and hit Remove, then choose the repair option. Also click Run and type SFC. This will check your system for any corrupt files realted to Windows. You can also do a reinstall of Win98 without loosing data. Just install it over the top of the existing system. Last resort is to do a Clean install. Also try from a Dos prompt scanreg/fix. Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I would love to try that repair for IE6 and internet tools, but it is not listed on the add/ remove list.
Any suggestions to correct this?

Do you mean a clean install? Or just an overlap over my existing win98?
Thanks for the help. I already tried SFC on another computer... pretty cool.
can't wait until the kid wakes up, so I can go in his room and try it on his.

Try Start>Run, and enter (all on one line):
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.exe" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
or,
Start > Run rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.exe" /g
