Hello there!
I'm running Win95 B on a 333 with an old SoundBlaster card, and while the system plays the system sounds with no problem, it balks at playing CDs through 'CD Player'.

I have tried to adjust the volume settings, but Volume Control won't open because "There are no active mixer devices available. You may install or activate mixer devices from the Control Panel."

So, of course I go into Control Panel and adjust the settings, ending up installing all the options for Multimedia, but still no mixer devices.

So then I've gone into the Multimedia Properties from Control Panel, gone to the Advanced tab, and found that I can't bring up properties for Mixer Devices.

My first question is: which steps should I take to get a mixer device active on my system? The second question is: is the mixer device actually the problem with not hearing the CD that is playing via CD player when the system sounds are coming through loud and clear?

Any answers are appreciated.

Harold

if the sound card is too old it won't have a mixer device built in it and you might have to get an updated sound card

Try downloading mediaplayer, and associate the file to it. For wavs, download winmap and install as default then wavget
