Hi guys. I'm haveing a wee bit of a problem with a new graphics card. Its a Ennya Geforce fx 5200 128mgb ddr ram and the problem is everytime I change the resolution during such things as playing "3d" games and other things. The screen goes completely nutty. It either flickers or theres a bunch of weird scanline like things on it. But its random.. It only happens when I change the resolution.. Say I reboot my PC. I play a game at 800x600. If I change that to a diffrent res it goes bonkers. but if I reboot and change the resolution without activating the game it will work fine.. but there again if I change it from the resolution I just changed (1024x768 to 800x600 or vice versa) it goes nuts again.. I'm asuming that this does mean its the graphics card it self (at least I hope its not) So what is it? the driver? I tried changeing it once and that didnt work at all.. please let me know ..
thanks in advance and sorry for such a long question

In my opinion, this is only a natural reaction of your video card.... But then again, I read that you are using windows 98 SE. Please check your DirectX software? What version do you use?
In my experience in installing games that require modern version of DirectX on windows 98 SE, you must NOT immediately install the latest. You resolve you problem by installing DirectX gradually. Example: Windows 98se initially have DirectX 6.1a, the next directX version you should install is version 7 followed by 8.1 then 9!

I would suspect that it's the drivers of either the Graphics card or the Monitor.
Most monitors work OK on default drivers but will work better with drivers that are specific to that monitor.
Look in device manager to see if you have default drivers or specific drivers for your monitor.

I dont think its the monitor because this is a new one and the one I had before did the exact same thing. As for direct x. I have the latest which is direct x 9. I was thinking that could be one of the problems but there is no way for me to be sure of that unless I format again.. direct x is a pain in the butt to uninstall properly :(..
So if I were to install the older versions vradualy.. Where would I find them?

Hi,
Ran into same problem with an S3 card some time back.
People had a graphics control program loading from startup to control the card. When they changed the settings from the RIGHT CLICK PROPERTIES SETTING on the desktop it would cause the screen to go crazy. If they changed it from within the Graphics card program it was fine.
See if your Card software created a separate program for controlling the video settings and try controlling it from there. Look in the lower right corner of your taskbar for a possible icon.
If this is not your case just ignore this.
James
