Subject: Problems re-formating hard drive |
Comment: I had problems with my system (some P/600.386 missing file message) so I decided to re-format my hard drive and just start over. When after I using the Format c: method, I have been having trouble accessing my CD-Rom to be able to install the software. When I go into the Bios and set up the drive to boot up first it come up with a failure message for the d drive and searches for a disk every time. When I set the Bios to boot up with the A drive, it searches for the disk state that it's loading Windows 95 (it's a Win 95 boot disk) and then has the A:\> prompt. I can't switch over to the d:\ it states unknown drive (or something like it). I really need help. Did I mess the whole thing up?

Reply: (edit)If you're going to install 95, go to bootdisk.com. They should be able to provide you with a CD-ROM driver you can use, and this instructions for modifying your config.sys and autoexec.bat files on the floppy. That will give you the CD-ROM support you need to finish. Cheers! Chase

Reply: (edit)Or just use a win 98 floppy startup disc as this has cdrom drivers while a win 95 disc contains no cdrom support

Reply: (edit)Have you by any chance copied the config.sys and autoexec.bat files from the bootfloppy to the Hard Drive?? any how - try removing every entry from both these files on the HDD and see what happens.. easy way is to just rename them... they are not really needed in current systems HTH
