When I formatted a partition by right-clicking on the Partition ICON after opening My Comp, I find that
(a)The hidden folder "system volume information" is missing and
(b) The Recycle Bin icon is REPLACED by a "FOLDER" named RECYCLED.

2. Can someone explain why has it happened and can anything be done to correct this??

3. Of course when I delete a folder in this partition, it is sent to recycle bin alright but the CIRCULAR INDICATOR in the left hand portion of My Comp does not indicate the volume USED and FREE although the figures of used volume are shown.
3. Many many thanks in advance!!

"SYSTEM volume INFORmation" is a WINdows xP feature and does Not exist in WiN98

Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.

But all the other partitions are showing the hidden folder "System Volume Information" and only the partition which I formatted does not have it now. I remember it ALSO HAD the folder before formatting.

BuT THAT would BE a PrOduct of xP, not 98 - likely the resolution lies there as well.

Dual boot systems are seldom quite the same as one OS systems (should almost be a separate forum)

I copied some more files to the partition and the Circular Indicator has STARTED SHOWING the volume used up.

2. Can someone, please, clarify as to what is the function of the hidden folder "System Volume Information" and why the Recycle Bin ICON has changed to FOLDER shape??

Oops sorry, I'm missing the theme of this thread!

Please imagine that the last two words on my previous post read 'AND WHY?'

To begin it was as empty partition (Let,s call it x) with no folder on it whatsoever.

2. I was learning to operate Symantec Ghostpe and I shifted an entire LOADED PARTITION onto this partition.

3. I had earlier also done a similar exercise and was successful.

4. But this time after transferring the LOADED partition, the partition x started giving peculiar errors(I am sorry I didn,t note down these errors)

5. So I formatted the partition by right-clicking the partition icon and now it is blank partition again.

6. After formatting, the above story begins.

7. I am not computer professional and many times I learn from trial and error and, of course, I make mistakes.

You've made a mistake in the sense of; The elements you're describing are components of XP and Win 2000. This is the 95/98 forum. You should be posting in the applicable forum.

All the operations of Ghostpe I did from win98 but perhaps, when I formatted the partition x, the view mode was
view -> Folder Options -> Show all Files

and that is why the two hidden files(including Recycle Bin) were affected.

2. Perhaps, while formatting I ought to have chosen the view mode as
"Don,t show hidden files"

What you seem to have DONE, is when you copied the files to the other PARTITION, XP tracked the move and pointed to the new location.

A system RESTORE or a recovery install should set things right.
