Hi everybody! i have a toshiba satellite pro 400cdt here (old laptop) and im having a problem with it and system standby. im running win98se on it and it wont recover from standby correctly. it goes to sleep fine and it wakes up fine as long as i do it immediately. the problem is that when i try to wake it up after being asleep for a half an hour or longer, it cant. the hard drive will start doing its thing and the cdrom will start spinning but the screen wont come on at all. it seems as though all is well except for the screen. i thought it was a video driver or lcd screen problem until i noticed that my wlan card wouldnt start up either. that might be because its next in line to wake up after the screen. it kinda defeats the purpose of standby when i cant put it to sleep for extended periods of time. if anyone knows what i can do about it, help would be appreciated. thanks.

Go to microsoft.com and download the necessary updates for win 98se. If that doesn't fix it. Which sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. The only other alternative that I have found to work is to go into power management from the control panel and set the Hard drive to always on.

The windows Power and Standby modes are very flakey. Consider yourself lucky if they work without problems.

I tried updating 98se but it didnt help. Im wondering if it might be a battery problem. Not the main battery but the cmos battery or something. I dont want to buy a new cmos battery, though, unless i know that thats the problem. I thought of this because i think that maybe the battery is needed to wake the comp and it only stays charged for 3 minutes instead of days like it should (the comp wakes up after 3 minutes but not days after). Does anybody know anymore about this?
