I can't use creative play center because this program needs mediadet.exe But this file is on my HD.
Must this file be updated ?

Fred, I suggest updating your sblive software and drivers. I just did this for my sblive card too. It is about 28 megs worth of stuff, but it will more than likely fix your problem.

Experienced the same problem. Problem is three files (wnaspi32.dll, winaspi.dll and apix.vxd)being modified by scsi devices and software packages. Solution is too replace with files from your operating system cd-rom. Thanks goes to Michael Kampstra (Creative Labs) for solution ... it works.

After spending night after night trying to solve the same problem, words aren't enough to describe my joy and gratitude to HughT and Michael Kampstra for the lead to solving this problem of sb live! with mediadet.exe

Hi guys, I've te same problem, but, you know, I can't find my Win98 CD-Rom (in fact I'm sure it's at my Mom's house, anyway).
Don't you know a site where I could find these files to dowloand them?
Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem and have read the above solutions. I do have my WIN 98 CD, but for some stupid reason I cannot find the files,wnaspi32.dll,winaspi.dll and apix.vxd. Can someone clue me in on the path. Thanks

The files have to be extracted from the cab directories, using the extract utility which comes with it. However even after trying this my problem still remains. I'm thinking it's something to do with an incompatible ide disk controller thingy, perhaps???

I've have resolved the problems as follows:
winaspi.ddl, wnaspi32.dll and apix.vxd are in the CD-rom Win98.
I did search all the cab-files in the CD-rom of Win98.
Winaspi.dll and wnaspi32.dll are in the CAB 39
Apix.vxd is in the CAB 45
When you extract these files to the Windows directory it works perfectly.
Winaspi.dll and wnaspi32.dll are to extract to the directory: c:\windows\system
and Apix.vxd is to extract to the directory: C:\Windows\system\IOSUBSYS
And all is repaired.

First of all, my winaspi.dll and wnaspi32.dll were in totally different directories than yours, and i totally can't find Apix.vxd
I'm not sure that if i do find that file, that it'll work...
What is your exact error message???
Mine is "failed to initialize disk detector. The file mediadet.exe may be missing or an incorrect version. You will not be able to play disk-based media."Could someone help????? I'm rather desperate!

Well, I have the same problem, only on a w2k pro system, would it still be the same files I need to replace? Please email me if you get a chance...
Pludo
