I seem to have a problem with trying to capture any form of screen prints, everytime i press Print Screen or Alt + Print Screen and got to one of my Graphic programs it just crashes and i have to do Ctrl + Alt + Del to clear the Not Responding program by End Tasking it. Could anyone help me with this? I have tried re-installing it from the add/remove programs menu, but to no avail. I have also tried running ScanDisk a number of times and it did seem to fix it a bit but it was only short lived. I would like to fix it without downloading any screen printing software as i would like to use the original method. The computer also has enough Virtual Memory and Physical Memory as well.

The Programs i have used to try and drop (paste) the print screen capture is as follows:
Paint
MS WordPad
MS Word
IceView
Ifran View
Microsoft Photo Editor

In each instance it does the same thing, crashes then i have to Ctrl + Alt + Del then End Task the program that is in use.

If you can help or if you have had this problem befor then please let me know how you got rid of the problem. I do NOT want to download any programs from the internet, i would like to just getting the Print Screen button function working.

I have experienced the same thing with Win9X computers. Some, but not all are not able to use the CTRL+Print SCRN feature.

What I did was download a small utility that lets you take screen shots of your entire screen or just the active screen. I actually think it is better because it saves it as a .jpg instead of .bmp which can take up space.

The program is called Howie's Quick Screen Capture

Good Luck!

Screen Capture Win98

If you are in any windows based program, just hit
the Print Screen key on your keyboard ( or Ctrl + V ) and you have a full screenshot.
If you hold down the 'Alt' key with the Print screen key, you will
capture only the window that is on your screen, not the whole desk top.
This sends it to Clipboard , now you can Paste it into Paint ( go to Edit ) or any
other Windows based graphics program .
Save as...
If you need to crop it, put it in any Edit program and crop.

I use Irfanview instead of Paint .
Install Irfanview ( freeware ) from ,
http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9227474/english.htm

Also , on the above page , click on Irfanview?
Go to 3 , PlugIn required ( check this page for download )
Personally , I downloaded all of them .

After installing , go to
Options>Properties>Extensions , click on select all .

If Clipboard is not installed , go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows Setup >
System Tools & click on Clipboard Viewer > follow instructions .

If you don't have a Windows install disk , here is a free Clipboard program .

johnw, what solid great info you gave on that one. I have all of the above mentioned programs and it's nice to see I am not the only one, cliptrak is great and Irfan is the best. One other one you may be interested in is Xnview which is a free graphics program that supports a couple of hundred formats. Do a google search for it; worth the download.

I am suspecting/guessing the problem lies in the 'Drop pasting'

Try opening Paint which by default already has a new file opened. Go to Edit, Paste (of course, after capturing the screen).

Edit
(I just tried Alt+Print Screen>>>>>Opened MSPaint, clicked inside of the new file to activate it and hit Ctrl+V>>>>>>It worked just fine.)
