OS: Win95c OSR 2.5
CPU/Ram: Pentium MMX 233/ 96Mb.
Comment:

I installed eMule and when I open it it gives me an error:
The EMULE.exe file is linked to missing export ADVAPI32.dll:CryptAcquireContextW.

I have a hunch that I need IE5 (I have IE4 on it, but I use Firefox 1.5).

thanks.

Hmmm - - ok, thanks for sharing.

That kind of message frequently occurs when running newer (& not quite compatible) software on older OSes

A few seconds on Google indicates you can probably go no higher than eMule 0.45b, as per Lightspeed's page

Here's some info on the 'linked to missing export' message.

You may be able to fix it by extracting a copy from your cd. If that doesn't do it try finding a new version. A google search will turn up a download site.

This assumes, as jboy mentioned, that you have the minimum software requirements necessary to run emule.

I don't think a different version of the DLL will do

Just for fun, I installed the latest eMule on a 95 machine, and received the same "missing export... " message - on that machine, ADVAPI32.DLL is version 4.7.0118 (and IE5.5)

Probably simplest to using an earlier eMule version - -from the current eMule FAQ:

eMule works with all Windows versions after Windows 95

According to the link provided, earlier versions of eMule will run on 95 - - but I gather reading isn't one of your strong points

Check your glasses (for a start)

Thank you for the help. I guess you can't always trust what is said for the system requirements. I will d/l the older version then upgrade to 98 through a network card (when I get one for it, I need a PCMCIA wired card) as I don't have a cd-rom for it.
