I have a Hewlett Packard 6470 with the cdrom that came with it. I can get the cdrom to open and close but I can play any cds. I think its cause of the cdrom drivers. I can really use some help trying to get it working again.

It'll open and close with just the power cable hooked up. Check the ribbon cable to be sure it's still hooked up on both ends and on the correct pins. Try another cable. Make sure that CD Player is still installed and that your sound card, mixer and other audio settings are correct. See if cdrom is shown in the Device Manager and doesn't have any conflicts.

There is a little wire that goes from the rear of your CDrom drive to your sound card. Make sure that it is hooked up correctly. If it is, go to your CDrom in device manager and check to see if the DMA setting is enabled. If it is enabled, then maybe disabling it might help. Hope this helps.
