Hello.Till recently I had been the owner of a Pentium 75 Mhz PC with 1.2 GB hdd and the works. As most of my work was DOS related being a student, it worked out just fine. Most of the DOS programs ran fine even under Win 95. I've recently upgraded to a Celeron 800 Mhz with 128 mb RAM,20 GB HDD and onboard sound/Video on an 815 Chipset motherboard. Since I have a lot of DOS programs, during partioning of the HDD , I left one partion (the Boot partion) as FAT-16 for DOS.I first installed DOS 6.0 then Win 98.
I have no problems with Window programs. Some of my DOS programs run. Some though refuse to run due to a "Runtime Error 200".These programs are mostly simple text viewers, rippers and file browsers.I even tried running them by booting into native DOS..but they give the same error. What does the error mean and how can it be rectified?
Another problem is with DOS games like Doom etc. They run without sound. This could be because of the lack of a DOS driver( The sound device is an Avance AC'97 Audio). Is there any generic DOS driver which can be installed to play sound or could I perhaps get hold of a PCI soundcard with drivers and override the motherboard sound? Any solutions for either problems would be appreciated.

Sounds like the well know "Pascal7" bug - go here (maybe) for an explanation and patch:

The Classic DooM game has to be set up in DOS - depending on your sound card parameters, you need to run the DOS DooM setup to configure sounds correctly - this works great if your sound system is SB or compatible - can be a little trickier if it's not.
If it is SB compatible, usu a "set blaster=" line is needed in autoexec.bat.Try syschk from:
www.syschk.com
to get a quick snapshot of your Sound parameters if Device Manager doesn't help.
There are also plenty of Win compatible DooM engines now available since the original Source code has been released - Zdoom, Windoom, Legacy, etc - try a search (doom ports), there's a ton of 'em - lots of enhancements (hey, it's a great game ;-)
