Due to the problem of default webpage (www.gohip.com), I uninstalled Netscape 4.51. Now this default webpage (www.gohip.com) has been removed, and I downloaded another Netscape 4.61 and wanted to reinstall it, but when I double cliked the downloaded file "cc32e461.exe", it showed the same problem:

"The decompression of %s failed, There may not be enough free disk space available in the TEMP directory".

Actually, there is over 800MB space in my hard drive (C:/), can someone help me?

Thanks in advance.

Kinda sounds like a bad download, I would try downloading it again. But maybe before doing that I would try cleaning out some space on the hard drive (just in case).

Open your hard drive C:
open your Windows folder
open the Temp folder
once in the Temp folder select edit>select all and then hit delete on your keyboard
Restart for good measure

*make triple sure you're in the Temp directory before deleting everything...if you did that to your Windows directory, that would be bad...

good luck!

Just need to comment on that last post. Don't worry about deleting your windows directory by accident. You can't. I have tried to on purpose. I have proven the fact that you cannot delete windows while in windows. You will get an error message that this directory cannot be deleted because it is being used by windows.

Don't get me wrong, you can delete windows while within windows, but not that way. I know you can do it because I deleted win95A from one of my computers and installed win95B onto that computer because it refuses to see the cd rom drive no matter what I do, so I found another way around it.

But I really only wanted to say empty your temp file and don't worry about it.

And as for that www.gohip.com? Well I had that experience too. Someone sent my son a link on the instant messenger and it took over the computer. Totally with it's own browser. I think that is what is taking up so much space. I solved it by downloading Zone Alarm. It has a place to block out unwanted URL's. I put the URL in there and have not had trouble with it. I no longer have the Zone alarm(because of reformatting and not got around to downloading it)but I also no longer have the gohip.com problem either.
I hope this was of some help to you.
