Hi everyone, i'd be really grateful if anyone could help me out with a huge problem i have.

Today i bought a DVD ROM drive and 512 mb of RAM to add to the 128 that i already have. Now that i have installed both of these though i am unable to browse the internet! I connect to my ISP at the correct speed etc, but it simply won't let me surf! It's not a problem at their end as i'm using them on a different computer now as i write this. Has anyone any suggestions as to how the problem could be resolved? Is it even necessarily related to my installation of new equipment?

Other information that may or may not be of any use: When i first installed the RAM my computer was acting extremelty eratically. I fixed this by changing the RAM slots round, though why this made any difference i don't know. The RAM i have is definitely correct for my motherboard and my configuration settings for my modem are correct, as far as i am aware. I am using the latest modem driver too and no conflicts are being reported in device manager. HELP ME!

Thankyou!

I doubt if this is the cause of your problem, but you should check the following web sites for problems concerning systems with over 512mb of RAM:

Specifying Amount of RAM Available to Windows Using MaxPhysPage

Insufficient Memory to Initialize Windows

Computer May Reboot Continuously with More Than 1.5 GB of RAM

Out of Memory with Large Amounts of RAM

You need to carry out the modifications to allow more than 512M RAM as given in #1 before you go any further. Once you have done this, if there are any other problems post back.

Alternatively see if it is any better if you remove the 128M RAM stick. You may be a power user of-course, but most folks don't need more than 512M of RAM on W98SE.
